Dixième Planète (Tenth Planet) is the first French magazine to be devoted entirely to the phenomenon of collecting derivatives. These licensed products are taken from films, from television series, cartoons but also video games. Founded in 1999, Dixième Planète immediately set itself up as the reference bi-monthly in this domain. It is a domain that is both specialised and vast, ranging from Star Wars to Goldorak, from X-Files to the Lord of the Rings, from Stargate to Casimir, or from Batman to Starsky and Hutch. Its editorial team made up of experienced specialists unfailingly compiles a list of the different items generated by these themes for the greater pleasure of our readers. With time, true interactivity has developed between our readership and the editorial staff, with notably a lot of competitions and in the numerous meetings during events and exhibitions we organise.
Nostalgia and nowadays.
When you go through the magazine, you will be struck by the host of miniatures, statuettes, figurines, action figures or toys which populate the strange world of Dixième Planète. The pleasant nostalgia brought about by these objects from our childhood and our youth blend together perfectly with the latest from movie production. Our magazine is also an indispensable tool for any good collector. A true bible for derivatives or toys, Dixième Planète happily goes along with the buff on his quest for the Holy Grail, an exhaustive reunion of all these ever-so-coveted treasures. Other articles come to complete this vision of the ever-growing, vast world of merchandising. The articles all have a specific angle studying for instance the history of a collection, a particularly successful trend, your hero’s favourite machines, the costumes in a television series, or explaining how to create your own derivative which has never been commercialised. The whole of the first part of the magazine is devoted to releases, toys, objects, statuettes, gadgets, videos, books, comic strips, CDs, models and exhibitions.
Some meetings not to be missed.
Regular columns follow the enthusiasts in their hobby with:
“Professor Kelp’s Clinic” (La clinique du Professeur Kelp) which gives all the tricks for repairing and maintaining old toys and other collector’s items.
“The great history of action figures” (la Grande Histoire des Action Figures) which as the numbers come out, has built up into a true encyclopaedic history of over forty years of moving figures.
“the Fakes” (les Faux), presenting the worst that can be found in terms of fake copies.
“Goodies but oldies” which discovers old toys left up in the attic.
“Originally…” (A l’origine) which takes us back to the source of inspiration of certain derivatives.
“Dream collections” (Collectors de rêve) which enables us to admire collector’s items which are unaffordable or extremely rare.
Finally “Over to you” (à vous de jouer) whose theme is how to show off your collection, with advice on how to customise or make dioramas.
More than just a mere magazine, Dixième Planète is a way of living your hobby, a state of mind, which prevents you from taking yourself too seriously whilst at the same time maintaining good standards in terms of information and documentation. If you don’t already know about Dixième Planète, I invite you to visit these pages.
